CargoServ has taken delivery of a new Vectron electric locomotive from European Locomotive Leasing (ELL), marking both an expansion of its fleet and the start of a new corporate design era.
The handover took place on 16 December 2025. 7193 601 is the third Vectron locomotive for CargoServ, which now comprises 11 electric locomotives and three diesel locomotives. The locomotive will primarily be deployed in circular freight services for voestalpine Stahl, including the award-winning “Bayern Shuttle” concept for transporting finished products and scrap to and from Germany, which received the German Logistics Award in 2021. In addition, it will operate on the Tauern route, carrying finished steel products to Italy. Beyond these core assignments, the locomotive is approved for use across all CargoServ services.

The yellow locomotive refreshed
The new lease locomotive represents a significant visual milestone for the company. It is the first locomotive to appear in CargoServ’s refreshed corporate design, ushering in a refreshed and modern look after 25 years of the company’s distinctive yellow-blue-grey livery. The design refresh aims to modernise the appearance of the fleet while retaining the strong recognition value of CargoServ’s iconic yellow locomotive design.

New wrapping technology
On the recommendation of ELL, a new wrapping technology was used by Pat&Patachon / Railcaption with increased durability and enhanced UV resistance. The new style was crreated by Railcolor Design and will be gradually rolled out across both new and existing locomotives.
The timing of the design refresh aligns with an important milestone for the company. In 2026, LogServ and CargoServ will celebrate their 25th anniversary. Both companies were founded on 1 April 2001. At that time, during the early phase of rail freight liberalisation in Austria, CargoServ operated the country’s first freight train run by a private railway undertaking on the public rail network—a limestone train from Steyrling to Linz.
