Since 2018, Slovenian Railways – Passenger Transport (SŽ Potniški promet) has ordered a total of 72 Stadler-built multiple units as part of a comprehensive passenger fleet renewal programme. The fleet consists of FLIRT EMUs, FLIRT DMUs and KISS EMUs, intended for domestic and cross-border services.
The initial contract from 2018 covered 26 trainsets, followed by a second order of 26 units in 2019 through exercised options. These deliveries, completed between 2020 and 2022, formed the core of the modern SŽ passenger fleet. A third order, signed in 2023, added 20 FLIRT DMUs for non-electrified routes.
