Alstom in Kassel is still outshopping new TRAXX AC3 locomotives for Deutsche Bahn. The latest machines have painted numbers we can not (yet) explain with the orders that have been published in the past.

At the end of January, Stadler Germany announced that Deutsche Bahn (DB) had contracted them to upgrade seventeen of their double-decker KISS vehicles for use within Switzerland, establishing the long-desired new hourly direct connection from Stuttgart to Zurich slated from December 2022.

We are used to seeing TRAXX AC3 locomotives on freight and regional passenger trains across Europe. However, in December 2018 a new chapter started when DB Fernverkehr’s version of this locomotive entered revenue service – for the moment in Germany only, but soon in Switzerland as well.
