Class 93 fleet secures maintenance base at Crewe

Rail Operations Group has signed a 2-year agreement with Direct Rail Services to support its growing Class 93 locomotive fleet, which will be based at Gresty Bridge depot in Crewe.

DB Cargo Deutschland currently has 108 class 187 locomotives in its fleet. These are 187 080-084, 104, 110-211.

In December 2021, DB Cargo Deutschland transferred six class 187 TRAXX AC3 to its daughter RBH Logistik. 187 124 was seen with its registration changed to D-RBH, but still in its full DB Cargo livery.

Again, there are new chapters to the story of DB Cargo Deutschland’s class 187 locomotives:

In May, two locomotive bodies numbered 187 195/196 were sent to the scrapyard;
In July 2021, two new locomotives were seen at Alstom’s factory in Kassel: again numbered 187 195/196 II;
In the months that followed, new machines were completed: 187 197, 198, 199, 200-204, 210, 211

The number of AC3 locomotives now produced for DB Cargo Deutschland has exceeded 110, the number of machines originally ordered back in 2013:

187 101-194 – the standard production line 2014-2019;
187 100 – came in 2015, it was used for tests and at the end delivered to DB Cargo;
187 080-084 – extra locomotives that came from stock production in 2017;
187 205-209 – First seen in 2020, maiden runs in 2021 – transport to Mannheim on 14.05.2021.

Alstom in Kassel is still outshopping new TRAXX AC3 locomotives for Deutsche Bahn. The latest machines have painted numbers we can not (yet) explain with the orders that have been published in the past.

We have updated the story with all the information we have confirmed so far:

During the summer of 2021, the first signs were there that DB Cargo Deutschland and lease company MRCE had closed a deal for exchanging 10 locomotives:

187 100-109 go from DB Cargo Deutschland to MRCE – These are AC locomotives authorized for Germany only, on average five years old.
