EbiCab 2000: A legacy challenge finally solved

At the beginning of July, Alstom reached a significant milestone by securing ERA approval for the operation of onboard EbiCab 2000 in ETCS mode on its Traxx 3 multi-system locomotives across several European countries. This approval resolves long-standing issues inherited from Bombardier following Alstom’s acquisition in 2021.

EbiCab 2000 was Bombardier’s implementation of a European Train Control System (ETCS). Alstom has struggled for years to obtain approval for *ETCS Base Line 3* operation. This affected all Traxx 3 MS locomotives delivered to Czech operators RegioJet (388 201–231) and ČD Cargo (388 001–026).
