This might very well be one of the last true “Werbeloks” of the Baureihe 101 still running with DB. The star of this iconic Intercity locomotive is fading fast — at least two-thirds of the original 145 units are no longer in active service, and many have already been scrapped.
DB 101 127 received a full wrap in red and black, showing the ‘Fahrwerk’ of one of Germany’s iconic steam locomotives: Baureihe 01. A striking detail: several areas on the locomotive’s front weren’t wrapped. While it’s understandable that elements like handrails and the insides of the light housings are difficult to sticker, they could have been painted for a more seamless look. That said, the exposed red sections actually add some visual interest to the front, especially since the stickers themselves are plain black with no design elements.
The livery is linked to Märklin model trains (unpaid) in H0, N, and Z scale, marking the 100th anniversary of the Baureihe 01 steam locomotive. The BR 01 steam locomotives were the first standardized express passenger engines built by the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft. Featuring a 4-6-2 “Pacific” wheel layout. The first machines entered service in 1926.
