On 12 September 2025, the Danish railway authority Trafikstyrelsen, the Federal Railway Authority in Germany (EBA) and the European Railway Agency (ERA) announced that the Talgo 230 trains of DSB have received the final authorisation to run on the Danish and German railway networks, paving the way for their entry into service soon under the EuroCity (EC) brand, initially serving routes between Copenhagen and Hamburg, as well as national services within Denmark.
The Talgo 230 trains are loco-hauled and will start running with a Siemens Vectron locomotive on each side. They are designed for speeds up to 230 km/h (200 km/h in commercial service), with capacities of up to 492 passengers. They feature first and second-class coaches, a coach for persons with reduced mobility, and facilities for bicycles and prams. Future upgrades include adding driving trailer to allow push-pull operation.

The approval process involved Trafikstyrelsen, EBA, ERA, Banedanmark, DB InfraGO, and TÜV SÜD Rail, and built on earlier authorisations in Germany. Additional approvals are being sought in Austria, the Netherlands, and Switzerland
DSB’s fleet will comprise 16 Talgo 230 trains, ordered in three phases since 2020 under a framework contract worth €500 million. Talgo 230 trains are also being introduced by Deutsche Bahn and Flix in Germany.
